Stone Forest

Through a high -class high way to, a very charming and attractive sight spot, the Stone Forest at the direction of south-east ,86 Km away from Kunming, located in the area of Yi minority Lunan county and occupied more than 400 thousand mu (a mu=666 square meters). Owing to many stone stands highly rising up from the ground looked like the a forest ,so it is named the Stone Forest-The first marvelous spectacle in the world. It is the typical landforms of the melting rocks. Before 270 million years it was a vast sea around , a plenty of thicker limestone rocks were deposited in the sea, they rose up and formed into the lands through much changes of the earth shell and the results of the sea leaving, and they were splashed by the sea water with the carbonic acid and cracked ,then a long term weathering . So it was formed into the blurry and misty Stone Forest .

Now the site consists of Big Stone Forest, Small Stone Forest, Naigu Stone Forest, New Stone Forest and many magic caves , water ponds and a water fall. Here a branch of YI minority ,Shani people is living.They are a minority good at the songs singing and dancing.
